Nuffield Science for Public Understanding

Teachers conference in June

We are pleased to confirm that we are now taking bookings for our teachers conference at Friend's House in London on Tuesday 26th June 2007.

A flyer containing more details about the event can be downloaded here (0.8 MB) and the booking form can be downloaded here (323 KB).

Ben Goldacre and Mark Haw have agreed to be headline speakers. Ben Goldacre, author of the regular Bad Science column in the Guardian will share some thoughts on judging so-called science as reported in the media. To read more about Ben, click here.

Mark Haw who has just published the book Middle World will talk about this science of the ‘middle world' - an underappreciated grey area between physics, chemistry and biology - and also about his experiences in communicating that science, writing a book about it and becoming a wandering proselytizer of it, everywhere from ‘cafes scientifique,’ to Waterstones bookshops, to the Royal Institution. There are more details about Mark and his new book on this website.

There will also be an introduction to the new full A-level Science in Society that has been developed from AS Science for Public Understanding.

Conference participants will receive a copy of Mark's book Middle World and a special offer on Ben's book, Bad Science, due for publication soon. MacmillanScience will also be offering other books
in their series at special prices for SPU teachers. Participants will also be invited to attend an evening meeting of the Royal Institution
at the same venue to be addressed by Ben Goldacre.

Cost (including lunch, refreshments and other offers referred to above): £40
